Can You Travel To Vietnam This Winter?

Travel to Vietnam this Winter is not yet allowed from most countries. Is it safe to fly to HAN Hanoi, DAD Da Nang, or SGN Ho Chi Minh City International Airport?

Travelling through airports can bring you in close contact with other people and frequently touched surfaces, which increases your chances of getting infected and infecting others. Non-essential travel is not currently allowed. Wearing of face-mask is compulsory on all Vietnam flights and violators will be fined from 1,000,000 VND to 3,000,000 VND.

What is it like to fly to Vietnam right now? Vietnam Airlines reports that both airline crew and guests are required to wear a face covering over the mouth and nose in the airport and on the flight. Poured beverages are no longer served, only bottled or canned. Few flights are operating in Vietnam right now.

Does Vietnam check COVID-19 symptoms of incoming travelers?  Temperature checks are done before boarding flights to Vietnam. Passengers with temperature higher than 37.5 °C may be denied boarding

Does Vietnam require a proof of negative Covid 19 test result for travelers?  => Yes. A negative real‑time COVID‑19 PCR test certificate is required for entry into Vietnam. The test must be taken at approved labs at the point of origin within 3 to 7 days before arrival in Vietnam.

Does Vietnam require a proof of Coronavirus vaccine for travelers? => No, not currently

Do I still need to provide a negative Covid test or quarantine if I have been vaccinated? At this time, there is no special allowance for vaccinated travelers in Vietnam.

Is a booster shot required for travel to Vietnam? At this time, booster shots are not required in Vietnam. There is currently no expiration period set for the validity of vaccinations.

What healthcare options are available to travelers in Vietnam who get the virus? Hospitals and clinics are open in major cities. Quarantine locations may only have rudimentary facilities. Persons experiencing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus or those concerned they may have been exposed to the virus should call the health hotline immediately at 19009095 (Press 1 for English).

If a foreign visitor is required to be tested for Coronavirus, they can get tested at designated laboratories in Vietnam. The test may be free if they test negative. If the test is positive, the visitor will be required to pay for it. Foreigners must pay for any medical treatment out of pocket.  

What service businesses and restaurants are open in Vietnam? All businesses in Vietnam had reopened in October, 2021. Select cities and provinces have imposed temporary lock downs or closed certain non-essential businesses when cases of the virus are detected in the area. 

Are face masks required in Vietnam? All people in Vietnam are encouraged to wear face masks and socially distance in public places. This is a requirement in Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Hanoi. 

Are buses and trains running in Vietnam? Domestic airline and railway transportation has been allowed to ease restrictions. More daily flights and trains within Vietnam are now available. Public and passenger transportation in certain provinces may be temporarily suspended.

What should you pack for safely traveling in Vietnam?

💊 Medicine – Bring enough prescription and over-the-counter medication for your entire trip to avoid trips to the clinic.

💳 Vaccine Card Holder – Protect that paper CDC card when traveling abroad (if your country doesn’t offer a digital version).

👃 Covid self-test – The most studied rapid antigen self-test with FDA emergency authorization. NOT valid to enter countries.

💧 Sealed water bottle – Make sure your reusable water bottle has a lid that’s not exposed to the air.
